Taunton Vale Sports Club Limited
Here is a brief history of the Taunton Vale Sports Club:
- Men's Hockey played as Curry Mallet Hockey Club from soon after World War I until 1937/38
- Needed a new ground due to outbreak of foot and mouth disease on the farm (home ground)
- Changed name to Taunton Vale Hockey Club as public playing fields in Taunton could only be used by Taunton clubs
- Ladies hockey played in Taunton since turn of 20th Century as Priorswood
- Both clubs led nomadic existence - venues included Galmington, Hamilton Road, the County Ground, Lillesdon Court, Priorswood, Middleway, Orchard Portman, Galmington (again) and Norton Manor (men) and Greenway Farm and Bishop Fox's School (girls)
- 1974 - TVHC and Taunton Ladies Hockey Club joined with Taunton Cricket Club to form Taunton Vale Sports club
- Moorfields (land leased from the Borough) became home
- Hockey prospered and in 1995 the men and ladies integrated to form one club - Taunton Vale Hockey Club
- Moorfields soil was not suitable for development of first class cricket wickets so the club was, yet again, on the move
- The interest in Moorfields was sold and thirteen years of hard work resulted in a move in 2001 to magnificent facilities in Staplegrove
